Overcoming Shift Work Fatigue – Why Green Foods Need To Be Your Friend!

Living on processed food every day is the fastest way to accelerate your shift work fatigue when you work irregular hours.

Consuming foods provided by Mother Nature on the other hand, is the fastest way to boost your energy and help fight off that overwhelming feeling of exhaustion.

When my husband and I “discovered” this concept some years ago (our household was made up of 2 very exhausted shift workers at the time) – our life took on a completely different direction.

This 180 degree shift in our eating habits inspired us to establish our very own organic vegetable garden full of Green Super Foods, along with preparing daily vegetable juices.

In fact as I type this article, the kitchen bench is over flowing with green spinach and lettuce – harvested straight from the vege patch this morning.

So why green? What has turning green got to do with overcoming shift work fatigue?

Well it’s actually quite simple.

You see when you consume dark green leafy vegetables – particularly in the form of a juice, it’s very easy for the body to absorb which means it’s able to reap the benefits much more quickly.

Green vegetables also contain chlorophyll which is Mother Nature’s most effective energy booster giving you instant, long-lasting energy.

They’re also high in alkaline which helps the body to work more efficiently – as opposed to most processed foods being quite acidic.

Quite simply, an efficient body means more energy for you!

Think about it? Have you ever seen a burger grow from a tree or a vine?

If it’s not designed by Mother Nature, chances are it’s not good for you. In fact it could actually be quite detrimental to your health. Goodness knows what’s in half the fast food that we see in food outlets around the world today.

So the next time you’re feeling tired, exhausted and sluggish – think green. Besides having a good night’s sleep it’s certainly the next best thing for helping overcome shift work fatigue.

And I’m not talking about consuming a whole packet of green M&M’s!

Are You Feeling Tired All Of The Time? 5 Easy Steps To Help Reduce Stress In Your Life.

If you’re a shift worker who feels tired all of the time, then sleep deprivation can certainly be one of the main causes – but not the only one. In fact it may actually be stress that is causing you to feel so tired all of the time.

Because whenever you’re feeling stressed, it affects both your mental and physical well-being which can lead to an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion.

What is interesting is that we all react differently to stress. One scenario may feel extremely stressful to one person, however prove insignificant to another. It all depends on your beliefs and your own perception of a stressful situation.

The key to minimizing the effects of stress is to try and control the level of stress that you experience every day. You will also need to establish what causes stress in your life and make the necessary changes.

Working shift work alone is stressful – no question. Just getting up in the middle of the night or the very early hours of the morning is adding a lot of unnecessary stress on your body.

But if you can’t change the erratic hours that you work, what else can you do to help reduce stress in your life?

Step 1 – Find a hobby or get involved in some other relaxing activity.

Step 2 – Exercise regularly – it can help relieve any tension that you may feel.

Step 3 – Stop worrying! Because 90% of what we worry about never happens, so let go of these kind of thoughts for good.

Step 4 – Accept change – it’s an integral part of life. Stressing about something that you can’t change is only going to add to your fatigue.

Step 5 – Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people. They will help uplift and energize you, instead of making you feel even more tired.

So stop stressing and start relaxing, because when you do – your days of constant fatigue and tiredness will become a thing of the past.

Are Your Shift Work Hours Leaving You Feeling Tired and Exhausted?

Now I don’t need to tell you that shift work hours can leave us feeling tired, exhausted and burnt-out. In fact some days we just want to go home, curl up in a ball and sleep for hours on the well used sofa or couch.

But is there a way to reduce the impacts of shift work hours on your health?

Quite simply – YES.

You see when you learn how to ‘Eat for Energy’ with the right foods, you can quite literally turn your shift work life around.

Yuri Elkaim is the author of ‘Eating for Energy’, a book which teaches you how to get your energy back by simply eating the right kind of foods.

And I do want to reinforce that statement – eating the right kind of foods.

As shift workers, we often blame sleep deprivation as the main cause of our extreme fatigue and tiredness and even though this may be true – it’s certainly not the ONLY reason why you may be feeling so tired.

If you’re filling up your body with sub-optimal fuel (ie; junk food, fast food, soda, sweets, cakes etc) – then you are effectively contaminating your body – just like you would if you filled your car with contaminated fuel. And just like a car, your body coughs and splutters trying to go about its daily tasks when it just hasn’t been given the right fuel to do so.

So if I was to ask you to stand up right now, leave your computer and walk into your kitchen and take a good hard look inside your fridge and pantry – what would you find?

* A pantry filled with whole grains, nuts and seeds? Or a pantry filled with jars, tins and boxes of processed food?

* A fridge filled with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables? Or a fridge filled with soft drink, left-over instant food, sauces, condiments etc?

You see quite frankly I think the energy you have depends enormously on what is stored in both your fridge and pantry. They represent a true reflection of your health. That is one that is healthy – or one that is tired, exhausted and overweight.

So if you are serious about wanting to stop feeling tired and exhausted, then clean out your fridge and pantry and get rid of the processed food. Because if it’s not within your reach, then you simply cannot eat it.

Shift Work Fatigue – Get Ready As I'm About To Publish My 5 Part Video Series For FREE!

By far the biggest struggle I hear from shift workers every single day is FATIGUE!

So I’ve decided to compile a 5 Part Video Series for Free because this is what you’re asking me to do, and where you need the most help.

So if this is YOU, then keep an eye on my site because you’re about to learn some simple (yet commonly overlooked) ways to help you with shift work fatigue!

Frustrated Shift Workers – Two Simple Things That Will Help You To Beat The 'Shift Work Blues!'

If you’re a frustrated and dissatisfied shift worker searching for a way to ‘Beat the Shift Work Blues’ then you’ve come to the right place. As shift workers we certainly work crazy and irregular hours which can make it very difficult to achieve a happy ‘work/life balance’.

But don’t worry – there is a solution!

I am going to share with you exactly how to ‘Beat the Shift Work Blues’ and become much happier at work.

Firstly I will tell you, that I am a shift work veteran of the airline industry where I worked for 15 years as a very frustrated shift worker. So I know EXACTLY what it’s like to get up in the dark, to constantly feel tired, and to miss out on family time because I’m either in bed or working on the weekends.

So what did I do to help me to ‘Beat the Shift Work Blues?’

Well I decided to take 100% responsibility for my life and to do 2 things:

1. I changed my mindset which allowed me to accept what I can’t change, and to change what I can.

2. I made a conscious decision to ‘not mind shift work’.

You see, shift work can be incredibily tiring and frustrating. To be honest if you’re a shift worker, then you’re a lot tougher and stronger than most of the general population because shift work isn’t easy, and not everybody is cut out for it.

There are certainly so many things that can add to your fatigue and frustrations. But the day that I decided to “… accept what I can’t change, and to change what I can” – literally changed my life.

Now if you come to work everyday and you say to yourself “… I hate my job, I hate working shift work, woe is me …” then that’s exactly what is going to happen. In simple terms, your thoughts will attract those things.

However if you start to take charge of your shift working life (and not the other way around) and begin by changing the way that you think, this mental shift can be very, very powerful.

You see the key difference is the thoughts that we think. You can choose what you think about and what you focus on, and you can also choose who you listen too. Keep away from negative people and certainly don’t be one yourself!

So come into work with a smile on your face, be friendly and don’t take life so seriously. Learn to laugh again because laughter is contagious. When we smile, people smile back.

Isn’t this the sort of work place that you’d like to be part of?
